ChildCareEd provides online training aligned with the Government of the Virgin Islands, Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Child Care & Regulatory Services (OCCRS) Rules and Regulations for Child Care Facilities, After School Programs, and Summer Camps, adopted under Title 34, Virgin Islands Code, Chapter 13, Sections 381–399.

Who Needs U.S. Virgin Islands Child Care Training?

Under DHS/OCCRS Rules, any individual responsible for the supervision, care, education, or well-being of children must meet training requirements, including:

  • Directors / Supervisors
  • Teachers & Assistant Teachers
  • Family Day Care & Group Day Care Providers
  • School-Age Program Staff 
  • Summer Camp & Children’s Camp Counselors
  • Substitutes and any staff counted in ratios 
  • Staff responsible for health, safety, hygiene, transportation, or emergencies

Annual Training Requirements for Virgin Islands Child Care Providers

According to the DHS Rules & Regulations:

Directors (Section 602):

24 hours annually, including administration, ECE best practices, safety, abuse prevention

Teachers & Assistant Teachers (Section 603):

At least 24 hours annually, including child development, safety, abuse prevention

School-Age Directors (Section 604):

12 hours annually, with 1 hour in child abuse/neglect

School-Age Staff (Section 605):

6 hours annually, including child development, guidance, special needs, safety, and legal topics

General Staff (Section 608):

Minimum 15 hours annually
