Subject Area 3: Supporting Children's Social and Emotional Development
Fostering independence in young children does more to prepare them for being ready for kindergarten: it boosts confidence, self-esteem, and a willingness to persevere in their own learning. Child care providers must be cognizant of strategies and skills children need to be independent in the early childhood classroom. In this 3-hour online child care course, learners will be able to:
β Recognize that children develop independence at different stages;
β Demonstrate an understanding of how to foster self-regulation skills in children;
β Give examples of strategies to help children resolve conflict amongst themselves; and
β Define basic skills children should have when they begin kindergarten.
