CDA Subject Area 7: Observing and recording children’s behavior. 

This 10-hour training course is designed to equip child care providers with the essential skills to observe, assess, and document children's behavior effectively. Participants will learn about the benefits of observation and assessment, various observational techniques, and different assessment methods. The course will cover how to conduct objective and accurate observations, identify developmental screening and assessments, and track skill development. Additionally, participants will explore strategies for assessing and meeting the needs of children with special needs, as well as the importance of individual planning and individualized learning. By completing this training, child care providers will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care and support for children's development.

B. Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of translating assessment and observational information into short and long term goal development
  2. Identify importance of individual planning.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of how to conduct objective and accurate observations.
  4. Identify and discuss of the importance of using a variety of assessment methods.
  5. Identify the differences between developmental screening and assessments.
  6. Demonstrate understanding of how to assess and meet the needs of children with special needs.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of individual planning.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of how to implement an Individual Education Plan.
  9. Recognize the needs of individualized learning in preschool.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of how to implement an Individual Family Support Plan.
  11. Demonstrate understanding of scaffolding as a method for individualized learning.
  12. Recognize the importance of observing and gathering information related to children and youth's development.
  13. Recognize the importance of accurate and efficient documentation of observations and assessments.
  14. Demonstrate an understanding of the benefits of individualized learning
  15. Identify methods of assessments for mixed ages.
  16. Demonstrate understanding of using assessment and observation for short and long term goal development for special needs
  17. Identify the benefits of observation and assessment.
  18. Demonstrate assessment techniques to track skill development and individual need.
  19. Demonstrate an understanding of observational techniques that result in accurate and objective observation
Criteria to earn CEUs:
Certificates are awarded when the following criteria have been met by the learner:
  1. Class has been paid in full
  2. All material has been reviewed
  3. All review questions and final test have been completed with a passing score of 80% or higher.
Learning Assessment Method:
Learners will be assessed through questions after every section is completed. Learners will not be allowed to proceed to the next section of the training until all questions have been answered correctly. Learners will be presented with a final test composed of true/false and multiple choice questions. Upon successful completion of the training, learners will receive their certificate by email.
Learning Methodology:
Online material will be presented in the form of slides, accompanied with speech. Videos will be used to demonstrate ideas and concepts. Charts and tables will be used for illustration.
Logistics/Required Technology:
A stable internet connection is required for the completion of this course. Users are highly encouraged to take their online course on Google Chrome on either a laptop or desktop computer. Speakers and/or headphones are also required to hear speech.
