ChildCareEd’s trainings are approved by Train TN and recognized by the Tennessee Department of Human Services for training requirements for those who work in group child care homes, drop-in child care centers, child care centers and family child care homes. This includes clock hours for directors, assistant directors, licensee, operators, owners, primary caregivers, caregivers, central operators, substitutes and volunteers.

All staff preservice training requirements:

• Appropriate Precautions in Transportation of Children

Primary Educator – Family or Group Home Requirements:

• Child Development Associate credential and 2 years experience in early care and/or other education program.
  • 18 hours annual including:6 hours Health and Saftey
  • 3 hours Pre-Literacy and Literacy Skills and Education Implementation
  • Every 5 years Adverse Childhood Experiences

Educator – Family or Group Home Requirements:

• 12 hours annual including
  • 6 hours Health and Saftey
  • 3 hours Pre-Literacy and Literacy Skills and Education Implementation
  • Every 5 years Adverse Childhood Experiences

Director – Single-Site Center Requirements:

• Child Development Associate credential and seven years of experience administering an early care and/or education program
• 24 hours annual including:
  • 6 hours Health and Saftey
  • 3 hours Pre-Literacy and Literacy Skills and Education Implementation
  • Every 5 years Adverse Childhood Experiences

Assistant Director – Center Requirements:

• 1 academic course in administration, child development, early childhood education, health/safety or related field
• 18 hours annual including:
  • 4 hours Administration, Management or Supervisory training
  • 6 hours Health and Saftey
  • 3 hours Pre-Literacy and Literacy Skills and Education Implementation
  • Every 5 years Adverse Childhood Experiences

Educator – Center Requirements:

• Child Development Associate credential
• 12 hours annual including:
  • 6 hours Health and Saftey
  • 3 hours Pre-Literacy and Literacy Skills and Education Implementation
  • Every 5 years Adverse Childhood Experiences

Train TN 

ChildCareEd approved courses can be found on Train TN. Users may purchase approved courses through the ChildCareEd website. For credit, please add your Train IN user ID to your ChildCareEd account. Attendance data will be uploaded weekly to Train TN. Please allow a minimum of 5 business days for your completed course to appear on your Registry account.

• Instructor-Led: Unlimited online training, plus all CDA online training courses, and one Virtual Class each month led by a trained Educational Specialist
