Important Note

North Dakota requires that certain preservice courses be completed through the State of North Dakota only. ChildCareEd does not provide these state-specific preservice courses.

However, all other annual, ongoing, and professional development training hours may be completed through ChildCareEd and are accepted by the North Dakota Early Childhood Workforce Registry.

North Dakota Annual Training Requirements

Annual training hours in North Dakota vary based on the number of hours you work per week.

Center, Preschool, & School-Age Program Staff

  • 30–40 hours/week → 13 hours annually
  • 20–30 hours/week → 11 hours annually
  • 10–20 hours/week → 9 hours annually
  • Less than 10 hours/week → 7 hours annually

In-Home Providers

  • 30–40 hours/week → 8 hours annually
  • 20–30 hours/week → 6 hours annually
  • 10–20 hours/week → 4 hours annually
  • Less than 10 hours/week → 2 hours annually

All ChildCareEd training that is North Dakota–approved counts toward these annual requirements and is accepted for Registry credit and licensing documentation.

CDA Credential Training for North Dakota Providers

North Dakota accepts the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential as a recognized qualification for child care staff. Directors and supervisors must hold a CDA or higher plus at least one year of experience.

Early Childhood Workforce Registry Credit

The North Dakota Early Childhood Workforce Registry (formerly Growing Futures) allows ChildCareEd to automatically upload course completions so your hours are recorded quickly and accurately.

To receive automatic credit:

  1. Add your Growing Futures / ND Early Childhood Workforce Registry ID to your ChildCareEd account.
  2. Complete any North Dakota-approved ChildCareEd course.
  3. ChildCareEd uploads attendance weekly.
  4. Allow up to 5 business days for your training to appear in your Registry record.

This process removes the need for manual entry and helps you maintain an up-to-date professional record for licensing and employment.
