ChildCareEd courses are approved by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and can be used towards meeting on-going training for those who work in childcare programs and family child care homes. This includes staff, facility directors, administrators, lead teachers, teachers, teacher aides, caregivers, operators, substitutes, and volunteers.

Preservice training requirements for all providers:

• 20 clock hours of training
• Health and Safety training:
  • Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 
  • Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Use of Safe Sleep Practices
  • Administration of Medicine 
  • Prevention of and response to allergic reactions 
  • Building and Physical Premises Safety 
  • Shaken Baby Syndrome 
  • Responding to Emergencies 
  • Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials
  • Appropriate Precautions in Transportation of Children
  • Abuse and Neglect: Signs and Reporting
  • First Aid & CPR Blended

Lead Teacher training requirements:

• North Carolina Early Childhood Credential (NCECC) or its equivalent. Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is an approved equivalent for the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential.

Director training requirements:

• CDA Credential
• 32 clock hours of Early Childhood Program Administration

Family Child Care Provider training requirements:

• North Carolina Family Child Care Credential or its equivalent. Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is an approved equivalent for the North Carolina Family Child Care Credential.

Annual training requirements:

• Range from 5-20 hours based on the highest level of education.

• Basic: Unlimited online training
• Plus: Unlimited online training plus online CDA training courses
• Instructor-Led: Unlimited online training, plus all CDA online training courses, and one Virtual Class each month led by a trained Educational Specialist
