ChildCareEd training courses are accepted by the Colorado Department of Human Services toward the 15 training hours required of those who work in child care centers, family child care homes, and school-age centers. This includes directors, substitute directors, early childhood teachers, kindergarten teachers, staff aides, volunteers, licensees, employees, providers, substitute providers, experienced child care providers, program directors, program leaders, and program aides.

Preservice required training courses are offered free of charge through the Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System (PDIS) at www.coloradoshinespdis.com.

A Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential fulfills the required qualifications of Directors of Small Centers, Early Childhood Teachers, Infant Program Staff, and Toddler Program Staff.

ChildCareEd currently offers the 120 hours of CDA coursework for Infant and Toddler, Preschool, and Family Child Care. Our online training is designed to fulfill the CDA requirement for 120 hours of formal education in specific child-care competency areas.

Annual training requirements:

All staff who work with children must complete a minimum of fifteen (15) clock hours of ongoing professional development each year. At least three (3) clock hours per year must be in the focus of social-emotional development. 

Ongoing professional development courses must demonstrate a direct connection to one (1) or more of the following competency areas:

  • Child growth and development, and learning
  • Child observation and assessment
  • Family and community partnerships
  • Social-emotional health and development promotion
  • Health, safety and nutrition
  • Professional practice
  • Teaching practices

Colorado Shines PDIS Registry:

  • For registry credit, upload your certificate of completion into the Colorado Shines PDIS Registry system.

  • Instructor-Led: Unlimited online training, plus all CDA online training courses, and one Virtual Class each month led by a trained Educational Specialist
