If you work in child care in Connecticut, keeping up with professional development is essential for licensing, employment, and career growth. While Connecticut does not currently have a separate statewide approval process for training to count for licensing professional development, ChildCareEd courses are accepted by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood toward professional development requirements.

ChildCareEd is also an IACET-accredited organization and provides CEUs for online self-paced courses—so you can document high-quality learning that supports both compliance and professional advancement.

What Connecticut Training Does ChildCareEd Provide?

ChildCareEd offers flexible training options designed for busy child care professionals:

  • Online self-paced courses (available 24/7)
  • Virtual Instructor-Led training for live learning and team participation
  • Multi-language course access (excluding media) in languages such as Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Urdu, Farsi, and more

Annual Training Requirements

Training expectations vary by program type and role, so always confirm with licensing. Common Connecticut requirements include:

Center-Based and Group Child Care Home Staff

  • Annual professional development is commonly calculated as 1% of total hours worked each year, and programs should maintain a written professional development plan for staff.

Licensed Family Child Care

  • 18 hours of annual professional development (including at least one health and safety topic each year).

Director and Teacher Qualification

Connecticut roles may require formal education and credentials depending on position and setting. For example:

  • Directors and instructional leaders may need college coursework in early childhood/administration.
  • Teacher qualification pathways may include a CDA Credential (Preschool or Infant/Toddler), along with education/experience requirements.

CDA Credential Training

ChildCareEd supports Connecticut professionals pursuing the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or renewal with training options such as:
