Pre-Service Health & Safety Courses — Required by LARA

Program Administrator Qualification Requirements

To qualify as a Program Administrator at an early childhood center in Michigan, candidates must be at least 21 years of age, hold a high school diploma or GED, and meet one of the following pathways: State of Michigan

  • Valid CDA credential + 18 semester hours in ECE/Child Development + 960 hours of experience
  • At least 2 semester hours or 3.0 CEUs in child care administration, or an administrative credential approved by the department. Up to 30 hours of MiRegistry-approved administrative training may be used to meet this requirement. State of Michigan
  • Pass a comprehensive background check

Annual Training Requirements

Michigan requires the following annual professional development for Program Administrators.

  • Standard centers: 16 clock hours per calendar year
  • Small capacity centers (20 or fewer children): 10 clock hours per calendar year
