Pre-Service Health & Safety Courses — Required by LARA

Michigan requires new child care staff and home providers to complete training in nine federally mandated health and safety topics. ChildCareEd offers MIRegistry-approved online courses covering all required areas, including:

These pre-service courses allow Michigan providers to meet required health & safety training efficiently in an online, MIRegistry-accepted format.

Lead Teacher Qualification (Michigan-Approved 90 Hours / 9 CEUs)

To qualify as a Lead Teacher in a Michigan child care center, MIRegistry requires 90 approved hours (or 9 CEUs) of early childhood coursework.

ChildCareEd offers MIRegistry-approved Lead Teacher trainings online:

Each pairing satisfies Michigan Lead Teacher education requirements.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have 3,840 hours of documented experience with young children.
  • Complete within 6 months of hire.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Complete 16 hours of annual professional development.

Annual Training Requirements.

Michigan requires annual professional development for all providers:

Lead Teachers in standard centers: 16 clock hours per calendar year 

Lead Teachers in small capacity centers (20 or fewer children): 10 clock hours per calendar year
