Did you know that most center-based child care programs are subject to the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers? However, Arlington County is the only Virginia jurisdiction that may also regulate center-based child care programs.

Most center-based child care programs operating in Arlington must comply with both Chapter 52 and the VDSS Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers.

In Arlington County, Lead Teacher minimum requirements are:

  • Two (2) years of college, including 15 credit hours of child development and/or early childhood education coursework.

In all other counties in Virginia, Lead Teacher minimum requirements are:

  • A High Schoool Diploma
  • 24 hours of training related to the care of children within six (6) months prior to, or one-month following, hire/promotion.

Did you also know that the CDA Credential can be used toward earning your college degree as well as to advance your level on the Virginia Career Pathways for Early Childhood and Out-of-School Time Practitioners?

Take advantage of all the CDA Credential has to offer and get started on your path to career advancement.

H&H Child Care Training Center (ChildCareEd) offers the CDA credential as well as the CDA renewal in all CDA areas.

All of H&H Child Care Training Center (ChildCareEd)’s courses are accepted by the Virginia Department of Education, Office of Child Care Health and Safety.
