**This is a BLENDED training with online and instructor-led components.**

This course is designed for all caregivers working in a licensed child care facility in Texas. This course fulfills the annual 24 hour training requirement including:

  • Required training topics:
    • Professionalism and Ethics
    • Health, #Safety and Nutrition
    • Family and Community Relationships
    • Diversity and Dual Language Learners
    • Supporting Skill Development
    • Child #Growth-and-Development
    • Responsive Interactions and Guidance
    • Learning Environment, Planning Framework, Curriculum and Standards
  • Requirements necessary to provide care for children of all ages, including those younger than 24 months of age
  • Instructor-led training requirement

Course format:

  • Online training: 18 hours of online self-paced training. 
  • Instructor-led training: Two 3 hour instructor-led sessions using the Zoom platform totaling 6 hours. Instructor-led trainings could include any of the topic areas listed above. Please read the class notes for each session to choose your preferred training topics. 

Upon registration, you may immediately access the online portion of your training.

B. Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
  1. Identify different types of risk management common in child care.
  2. Identify strategies to assist children with food allergies/feeding concerns.
  3. Identify strategies for integrating culture and diversity into an infant and toddler program
  4. Define and identify the components of developmentally appropriate practice
  5. Identify the importance of professional development for child care professionals and strategies to make meaningful choices.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of brain development in young children.
  7. Identify stages and milestones of development for ages 1 to 5
  8. Identify community organizations that have training programs available that focus on child abuse.
  9. Describe positive discipline strategies to use in the classroom.
  10. Demonstrate understanding of strategies that utilize good time management practices for teachers and child care providers.
  11. Recognizing and preventing shaken baby syndrome
  12. Describe the meaning of positive discipline in the classroom.
  13. Identify ways to examine child behavior to prepare for guidance.
  14. Identify ways to help parents and infants/toddlers handle separation and attachment.
  15. Identify vehicle safety hazards that pose a major threat to children.
  16. Define healthy practices to mitigate the spread of germs and decrease the likelihood of SIDS in infants and toddlers.
  17. Identify procedures that will promote a safe environment (indoor and outdoor).
  18. Identify curriculums specific to children birth through age three
  19. Demonstrate understanding of appropriate interaction with infants and toddlers.
  20. Identify appropriate practice for the identification, prevention, and treatment of communicable diseases in childcare.
  21. Describe the proper procedures of medication administration including: authorizations forms, documentation, storage, training, emergent issues, and resources.
  22. Identify the nutritional needs of children aged four and above.
  23. Define social emotional development in young children
  24. Describe the components of emergency preparedness in the child care setting.
  25. Demonstrate appropriate/effective responses as they relate to a variety of typical child care scenarios.

No prerequisites are required for the completion of this course.
