Illinois has made a strong commitment to improving the quality of #early-childhood-education by building a trained, knowledgeable, and professional workforce. At the center of this system is the Illinois ECE Credential, a competency-based credential awarded through Gateways to Opportunity, the state’s professional #development system for early educators. If you work with young children anywhere in Illinois—whether in a DCFS-licensed center, a family child care home, Preschool for All (PFA), or Head Start—understanding this credential is essential for both your career and the children you serve.

This article kicks off a three-part series designed to help Illinois child care providers, teachers, and program administrators fully understand the ECE Credential system, how competencies work, and how you can meet requirements through state-approved online training such as ChildCareEd’s 29 specialty courses.
