What is an allergy?
A common misconception is the allergy is the same as an intolerance. In an allergic reaction, the immune system is involved and can be potentially life-threatening, especially to young children in child care. Common allergens include:
Why is it important to know what are potential reactions? Oftentimes young children cannot articulate what is happening to them, especially if this is their first allergic reaction.
What is asthma?
The most common chronic condition in the child care setting, asthma occurs when the air passageways leading to the lungs suddenly constrict and become inflammated, producing a clear muscous, which causes children to have difficulty breathing. Without proper treatment Repeated, chronic attacks can lead to permanent damage to the lungs; however, asthma can be controlled through appropriate care.
What will taking this course do for me?
This child care training course helps equip childcare professionals with the necessary training to handle allergies in young children in the child care setting. This is also a great refresher course for those who already have the certificate for the 6-Hour Medication Administration training. Through this training, participants will be able to do the following:
