Provider Requirement Levels
- Director: Must be 21. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in ECE or related field, or a CDA credential with significant experience.
- Teacher: Must be 18. High School Diploma/GED required, with preference for CDA or ECE credits.
- Aide: Must be 16 (under supervision).
Required Training Courses
- Pre-Service:
- Orientation: New staff must complete orientation within the first week of employment.
- Health & Safety: Mandatory training on federal health/safety topics (Health and Safety Basics).
- Annual Requirements:
- All Staff: 24 clock hours of training annually is the standard recommendation for licensed centers.
- Mandated Topics: CPR/First Aid (must be current), Child Abuse Reporting.
Reimbursable Training Information through the State
- DHS Subsidy/CCDF Grants: The Department of Human Services (DHS) administers Child Care Development Funds. Providers accepting subsidies can often access grants for "Quality Improvement," which covers staff training costs.

Opening a Childcare Facility in US Virgin Islands

- Steps: Submit a "Letter of Intent" to the Office of Child Care. You must attend a Pre-Licensing Orientation meeting.
Training we do not offer
- USVI Specific Orientation: Must be the official DHS session.
