Position Summary:
School-age child care teacher is expected to perform all duties necessary to ensure that children’s basic needs are taken care of. School-age child care teachers should be creative, high-energy, and enthusiastic. School-age child care teachers should foster a safe, loving environment that is conducive to growth and learning.

Responsibilities for School-Age Child Care Teacher:
-Instruct school-age children in activities designed to promote intellectual and creative growth
-Care and nurture school-age students
-Create a fun and safe learning environment
-Prepare and implement age-appropriate classroom lessons in core subjects and work to develop life skills and a love of learning in all students
-Develop schedules and routines to ensure adequate physical activity, learning activities, and follow Boys & Girls Club curriculum and groups
-Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parents
-Communicate with parents on students' growth and progress
-Maintain the health and safety of all students
-Assist students with homework and or distance learning

Competencies and Skills:
-Knowledge of the developmental stages of youth; public school structure, administration, curriculum; needs and issues facing youth; Demonstrated ability in school site operations; from opening new sites to maintaining and developing them.
-Demonstrated ability in supervising and motivating staff, volunteers, and youth.
-Demonstrated ability in successful communication with the school community, parents, and children.
-Ability to assess the school community's needs and implement programs based on that assessment.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe, Internet, and Outlook.
-Competencies include: program management, relationship building, regulatory compliance, leadership, decision making, and communication.

Working Conditions:
-Most of the work is conducted within a variety of school buildings or office settings. Travel to various program sites throughout Harford and Cecil Counties is required. School age teachers must provide his or her own transportation.
-Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing room for instruction.
-Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
-Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality.
-Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
-High energy, comfort with multi-tasking, able to work with numerous deadlines.
-Employees are subject to transfer from one department to another and from one club/school site to another as the needs of the organization change.
-Employees must be able to wear PPE recommended by MSDE OCC such as masks and/or gloves if necessary.
-Employees will be required to work with and around various cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
-Employees must be or willing to become familiar with OCC regulations and policies and willing to uphold them in order to create a healthy and safe environment.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience


Must be at least 19 years of age
Hold a High School diploma or its equivalent
Meet the guidelines of the Maryland State Department of Education - Office of Child Care.

Experience working with school-aged children
Child First Aid and CPR
Medication Administration
Emergency Preparedness

Compensation

Compensation Type: hourly
Minimum: $14
