💡 Get up to $5,000 in brand-new books to inspire young readers in your Philadelphia program!

If you work with children in low-income communities across Philadelphia, the Philly Book Wish Program offers an incredible opportunity to build your book collection with high-quality, culturally relevant books—for free! Created to support literacy and a love of reading, this program distributes thousands of brand-new books to schools and child care programs that need them most.


What Is the Philly Book Wish Program?

Launched in November 2022, this collaborative initiative was created by First Book, Read by 4th, the William Penn Foundation, and the Philly Book Bank. The program will provide 75,000 books over three years to Title I-eligible schools and early childhood programs throughout Philadelphia.

📖 Purpose:
To support literacy development by giving children access to books that reflect their cultures, spark their imaginations, and encourage lifelong learning.


What Does the Grant Provide?

✅ Up to $5,000 in book credits to use on the First Book Marketplace
✅ Access to brand-new, culturally relevant books
✅ Tools and resources for effective book distribution and use


Who Is Eligible for This Program?

✔️ Must be located in Philadelphia, PA
✔️ Must represent a Title I-eligible school or serve a population where 70% or more of children are from low-income families
✔️ Must be a registered First Book member (registration is free!)

How to Apply

  1. First Book Registration
  2. Visit the Philly Book Wish Program page for application updates.
  3. Submit your application online when the grant cycle opens (typically in the fall).
  4. Watch for award notifications and access your book credits through the First Book Marketplace.
