What is a CDA?

Many people have heard of the CDA Credential but often wonder, what is a CDA? ChildCareEd is here to answer your questions and support you on your path to the CDA. So let's take a look and answer the question, #what_is_a_CDA. The Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential™ is widely recognized and serves as an important step in advancing a career in early childhood education (ECE). It is based on a set of competency standards that guide professionals in becoming qualified educators for young children.

The Council for Professional Recognition is a global leader in credentialing early childhood educators, ensuring that CDA® credential holders are capable of fostering the growth of young children in various aspects. Obtaining a CDA® not only helps educators in bringing out the best in children but also contributes to career development and the reputation of the profession. Becoming a CDA requires dedication, but it equips practitioners with the necessary skills to teach young children effectively. By obtaining a CDA, one can advance their career, meet job requirements, demonstrate commitment to early childhood education, provide reassurance to parents, understand developmentally appropriate practices, and increase confidence.

In addition to completing 120-hours of training, individuals must also have at least 480 hours of experience working with children birth to age 5. They must also pass a written exam and a performance-based assessment.

The CDA credential is valid for three years. To maintain their credential, individuals must complete continuing education credits every three years.

If you are interested in a career in early childhood education, earning a CDA is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to the field and your knowledge and skills.
