Understanding Print Knowledge in Preschool

Research has shown that without a strong foundation in reading, children are left behind at the beginning of their educational careers. Preschool teachers need to build that strong foundation for our children’s academic future success, or we will continue to see the current 30-million-word gap.

Print knowledge is a precursor to skilled reading. Preschool children’s print knowledge is linked to later achievement in decoding, spelling, and reading comprehension.  Print knowledge sets the stage for children to understand the alphabetic principle. The alphabetic principle is connecting written letters with their sounds to read and write.  We here at H&H Child Care Training want to close the word gap and offer preschool teachers with the tools needed to help their children become proficient readers once they enter the primary grades.  Teachers can take our Understanding Print Knowledge in in Preschool course to learn how they can help children develop print knowledge.

H & H Child Care Training (ChildCareEd) Courses grant .2 CEUs or more as well as awarding state approved clock hours of 2 or more for all childcare centers, and family childcare providers in many states.  Check with your licensing agency to check for any additional requirements and to see if we are approved in your home state.    Visit our website and schedule your next class today!
