ChildCareEd courses may be used by regulated family child care home providers and assistants in group family child care homes to fulfill their 6 hours of annual training.

Education and training requirements for child care workers in Saskatchewan. A minimum of an ECE Level I is required in order to work 65 hours or more per month in a child care center. An ECE Level III is required for directors of child care centers.

  1. Classification of Staff: In Saskatchewan, child care staff are classified into three levels based on their education and training.
    • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Level I: Requires a minimum of an ECE Orientation course or equivalent.
    • ECE Level II: Requires completion of an ECE certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution (equivalent to one year of full-time post-secondary training in early childhood education).
    • ECE Level III: Requires completion of an ECE diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (equivalent to two years of full-time post-secondary training in early childhood education).
  2. First Aid and CPR Certification: Child care staff must have current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR. This certification must be maintained throughout their employment.

There is no professional development requirement for ECEs working in regulated child care centers.

For regulated family child care home providers and assistants in group family child care homes, 6 hours of professional development is required each year.
