License Type
Family Child Care Home: A child care facility located in a home in which four, five, or six children who are not related to the caregiver receive child care. A family child care home must have a certificate of compliance ("license") from DHS to legally operate. (Care for 7+ children requires a Child Care Center certificate.)
Pre-Service Training
The reauthorized CCDBG states all staff in certified child care programs must have preservice or orientation training (to be completed within three months) and ongoing professional development in each of the health and safety requirements outlined in §98.41. This includes the OCDEL-approved 6-Hour Pre-Service Health & Safety Training.
Important Notice About Pennsylvania Pre-Service Training
Pennsylvania requires a specific, state-designated 6-Hour Pre-Service Health and Safety Training (Part 1 and Part 2) approved directly by OCDEL/The Pennsylvania Key.
ChildCareEd courses may NOT be used to fulfill Pennsylvania’s required 6-hour Pre-Service Health & Safety Training. Only the official OCDEL/PA Key–approved modules listed on the Pennsylvania Key website may be used to satisfy this requirement.
Annual Training
12 clock hours of annual training, same as all other facility staff.
