Provider Requirement Levels

  • ECE (Early Childhood Educator): Requires a 2-year diploma or equivalent (Basic & Post-Basic).
  • ECE Assistant (ECEA): Requires one course in Child Development, Health, or Guidance.
  • Responsible Adult: 19+ years old, requires 20 hours of training (for school-age/assistants).

Required Training Courses

  • Annual Requirements:
    • ECEs: 40 hours of professional development every 5 years to renew certification.
  • Mandated Topics: First Aid (Standard level), Child Guidance.

Reimbursable Training Information through the State

  • ECE Education Support Fund: Administered by ECEBC. Provides bursaries for tuition and books for students enrolled in ECE programs.
  • WorkBC Grants: Wage subsidies for hiring/training staff in high-demand fields.

Opening a Childcare Facility in British Columbia

  • Agency: Health Authorities (e.g., Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health) - Community Care Licensing.

Training we do not offer

  • BC ECE Basic/Post-Basic Program: We offer PD hours, but not the full diploma program required for the "ECE" license.
