Provider Requirement Levels

  • Level 1 (Child Development Assistant): Completion of a 3-credit course (or 45-hour equivalent) in child development.
  • Level 2 (Child Development Worker): One-year certificate in ELCC.
  • Level 3 (Child Development Supervisor): Two-year diploma in ELCC.

Required Training Courses

  • Pre-Service: All staff must have a First Aid certificate and criminal record check.
  • Professional Development: To access wage top-ups, staff must complete varying hours of PD.
  • Mandated Topics: Standard Child Care First Aid (2-day course).

Reimbursable Training Information through the State

  • Alberta Child Care Grant Funding Program:
    • Professional Development Funding: Up to $1,500/year for tuition/books and up to $500/year for workshops/conferences for certified educators.
    • Release Time: Funding paid to the center to cover wages while staff attend training.
    • Apply: Alberta Child Care Funding

Training we do not offer

  • Standard Child Care First Aid: Must be an Alberta OHS approved course (e.g., St. John Ambulance).
  • Flight Framework: Specific training on Alberta's curriculum framework ("Flight") is often required/funded locally.
