Provider Requirement Levels

  • Director/Manager: Must be a Thai national (for license holding) and generally requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education or Administration.
  • Teacher: Should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related degree with a teaching license (Khurusapha).
  • Caregiver/Nanny: Requires a minimum of High School education plus a 420-hour Child Care Course approved by the Ministry.

Required Training Courses

  • Pre-Service: Staff without a direct ECE degree often must complete the 420-hour Training Course for Child Caregivers.
  • Mandated Topics: First Aid, Hygiene/Sanitation, Thai Culture & Ethics.

Reimbursable Training Information through the State

  • Department of Children and Youth (DCY) Support: Government-run training centers often provide the 420-hour course at low or no cost to Thai nationals.
  • Note: Grants for private international schools/centers are rare; most funding is for public/community projects.

Opening a Childcare Facility in Thailand

  • Agency: Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) - Department of Children and Youth (DCY).

  • Steps: Private centers must register with the local District Office (Bangkok) or Provincial Social Development Office. Strict Rule: A foreigner cannot own a school 100%; it must be 51% Thai owned.

  • 420-Hour Thai Caregiver Course: This is a specific national curriculum taught in Thai.
  • Thai Culture/Ethics Course: Mandatory for foreign teachers.
