Supervisor (Level III): Requires a Level III vocational qualification in Early Childhood Development (NVQ-J) or a Diploma/Degree in Education.
Practitioner (Level II): Requires a Level II vocational qualification in Early Childhood Development (NVQ-J).
Assistant: Basic training required; often working towards Level I or II.
Required Training Courses
Pre-Service:
Public Health Act Training: Food handlers permit and health certification.
Child Rights & Protection: Mandatory training on the Child Care and Protection Act.
Annual Requirements:
Practitioners: Continuous professional development is required for registration renewal with the Early Childhood Commission (ECC).
Mandated Topics: Pediatric First Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Detection (Mandatory Reporting).
Reimbursable Training Information through the State
CHASE Fund Scholarships: The Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education (CHASE) Fund provides scholarships for Early Childhood practitioners to pursue Level II and Level III certification, as well as Bachelor’s degrees.
Steps: You must apply for registration with the ECC. This involves a rigorous inspection against the "12 Standards" of operation (Staffing, Program, Health, Safety, etc.).
Training we do not offer
NCTVET/NVQ-J Certification: We offer training that supports these competencies, but the official Level II/III assessment is a local vocational process.
Jamaica Food Handlers Permit: Must be obtained from the local Parish Council/Health Department.
