Provider Requirement Levels

Minnesota Child Care Credential A basic credential (12 credit hours or 120 training hours) for providers who don't have a degree yet.

  • Steps to achieve: Complete the required training hours and apply through the MNCPD (Minnesota Center for Professional Development).

Reimbursable Training Information through the State

  • T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Minnesota: Administered by Child Care Aware of Minnesota. Scholarships for CDA, Associate, and Bachelor degrees.
  • REETAIN Bonuses: Retention bonuses for long-term educators to use for personal or professional costs.

Opening a Childcare Facility in Minnesota

  • Steps:
    • Family Child Care: Contact your County human services agency for an application and orientation.
    • Centers: Contact the state DHS directly and attend the Pre-Licensure Consultation.

Training we do not offer

  • SUID/AHT: Minnesota is very strict; these must be the specific DHS-approved videos or face-to-face courses.
  • C.A.R.S. (Child Passenger Safety): Must be the specific state-approved course.
